It’s no secret that I love crafting year round but there is something extra special about crafting during the Holidays! Making things for loved ones, homemade decorations, these are the things I want my girls to remember when they look back on Christmas’ at home! With this year looking a little different for everyone I think a little DIY is just what we all need to bring some excitement back into the season!
I have been making SO many ornaments so far this year and it has been a blast! When I found this DIY twisted paper ornament on Joann’s website I knew I had to add it to my handmade ornament collection.

Joann’s has been inspiring creativity since 1947 so I knew they were the perfect place to find a project and buy all the things for the project! Wether you’re a beginner or a master crafter, Joann’s has so many fun projects on their website to inspire your at home crafting!
Macy is just starting to really get into crafting and it is so much fun to have a little helper beside me while I create projects! For this DIY ornament we used hot glue, so she couldn’t do everything totally on her own but she sure did master the art of misting the paper! Macy is 5 years old and if you have a little one at home helping you with this project as well, I would recommend it for ages 5 & up for little helpers and maybe 10 & up for kids wanting to do it on their own!
Supplies:
● Scissors
● Assorted plastic ornaments
- Cut your paper/cardstock into 1″ strips using either scissors or paper cutter!Using your spray bottle, dampen your strips of paper, one at a time.
-
Using your spray bottle, dampen your strips of paper, one at a time.
-
(Be careful not to get it too wet otherwise the paper may tear)
-
While the paper is soft and slightly damp, twist each strip.
-
Once you’ve twisted your strips start hot glueing them around the ornament starting at the top and working your way down
-
Add your choice of ribbon or tinsel to give it a little extra flair!
The best part of this project is you can really make it your own with different pattered papers and embellishments! There is lots of room to let your creativity shine!
